Why we love reviews – and why that's difficult with escape rooms
We all regularly look at reviews, read others' opinions and try to get an idea of the local conditions beforehand. While restaurant reviews can usually be filtered well by vegetarian options, delivery speed or kitchen cleanliness, this is considerably more difficult with escape rooms.
Escape rooms are as varied as their players
If you ask 100 people what the best escape room they've ever played is, you'll likely get many different answers. But even if there's a popular choice for an escape room, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll enjoy that escape room yourself.
Escape rooms vary, and that's a good thing. It would be boring if you always played the same or similar escape rooms. Yes, even if you find an escape room to be bad, that's good, because otherwise you wouldn't know what the best escape room for you is.
Scenery, riddle or play - what counts for you?
The ones like great scenery and are, for example, when you think of escape rooms in the Ruhr area, by the backdrop of the Escape Rooms Recklinghausen at the Training Mine absolutely thrilled. Others would prefer many riddles and tasks, things they can puzzle over for a long time. Some are happy if they solve an escape room in just 30 minutes instead of 60. Others, however, are disappointed as they expected more.
There are escape rooms that get by completely without number and key locks, such as Rescue capsule 14c in Castrop-Rauxel. Some people like that, others miss the thrill when they've finally opened a combination lock.
Just our Escape rooms with actors are in high demand – but not for everyone. We also regularly receive enquiries from people wanting to be assured that there are definitely no actors in a particular escape room.
What reviews often conceal
Tastes are simply different And therefore, it's almost pointless paying attention to content reviews – unless you're trying to read between the lines. However, we advocate more for giving every escape room a chance and also playing escape rooms beyond good reviews and five stars on Google. Most escape rooms have an average of 4.9 stars anyway. If it's more, reviews were usually deleted afterwards. If it's less, the average of the total number is usually not correct. It should also always be considered that with groups that were dissatisfied, usually all group members leave a negative review. For positive reviews, this is usually only done by one person for the entire group – if at all.
Furthermore, many reviews are missing the context. There are often backgrounds that we don't know about, and it's difficult to take an objective view here.
Conclusion: Give every room a chance!
However, all operators and creators of escape rooms have put thought into it, made an effort, spent numerous hours of work in the room, and invested a lot of money to create the most exciting, attractive, and varied experience possible. We should pay more respect to this than simply declaring a room to be the best escape room of all time.
