Murder in Chicago – Our Crime Dinner Evening in Lüdenscheid

On Saturday, 17.01.2026, we are in Lüdenscheid one Played a murder mystery dinner. – and right from the first few minutes it was clear why this format has been so popular for years Inspiring people.

Amongst alcohol bottles, false smiles and well-kept Secrets an atmosphere was created that immediately drew us into the story. No spectators, no supporting actors – everyone was part of the action.

The event was organised by the escape room chain Confidential, along with classic Escape Rooms also regularly such Crime dinner evenings offering. For all of us, it was our first experience of a murder mystery dinner in this format – and it didn't take long before we were completely immersed in our roles.

The setting: Chicago in the 1930s

The scenario was played out „Murder in Chicago“.

The story leads to Chicago in the 1930s. A time when Mafia Syndicates act openly, corruption is commonplace, and law and order are more a matter of negotiation.

The starting point is simple, but effective:

A Group influential and not entirely blameless personalities meets for a Poker tournament for large sums.

But before the round is complete, appears Police Inspector Abraham Johnson with a message that instantly turns the evening on its head:

„Your last man isn't coming back. Machinegun Tommy's been garrotted.“

This makes it clear: the perpetrator must be among those present. No one is allowed to leave – and everyone is suddenly a suspect.

The roles: Different, clearly defined, full of friction

The Cast list was intentionally very Diverse created.
From the mafia boss to the businesswoman to the man of God, from the bouncer to the former dancer – every character brings their own past, her own motifs and their own secrets mit.

Some of the roles:

  • Big Daddy Cross, one of Chicago's big liquor barons
  • Vince Vegas, organiser of the poker tournament
  • Brooke Sterling, owner of the largest gun shop in the city
  • Carlos Sanchez, notorious doorman
  • Samantha Cross, Daughter of the mafia boss with completely different life plans

I myself have Li Peng Han played – the young Chinese woman, which are in the Poker game had bought and whose source of funds nobody knew.

The The role was very versatile created and offered plenty of room for Tactical approach, conversations and strategic decisions.
Just these Freedom is what makes a murder mystery dinner so appealing.

Atmosphere and gameplay

What I particularly liked was the balance between structure and freedom.

  • The code of conduct is clear, but not restrictive
  • There is enough room for improvisation
  • The roles fit well together
  • Real conflicts and subplots quickly arise

One of the central rules has particularly contributed to the suspense:
All players – with the exception of the murderer – generally had to tell the truth.
However, it was permissible to evade, answer vaguely or leave things deliberately open.
Only when explicit request was a clear, Honest answer required.

After a short while, it no longer mattered much who became the „winner“ or „loser“ – the thrill lay in, to develop the story together.

You quickly realise that a murder mystery dinner is less of a puzzle game and more of an interactive role-playing game within a crime framework.

Conclusion

The evening was a great success for us.

„Mord in Chicago“ ist geeignet Excellent for larger groups, which not only involves puzzles but also a desire to engage with their To admit a role, to play, to bluff and to improvise.

A big compliment goes to Confidential, who organised this event. Anyone who enjoys Escape Rooms and wants to try something different should definitely put a murder mystery dinner on their list.

It was certainly not the last for me Murder mystery dinner – especially if I get another exciting role like Li Peng Han may take over.
